Applying for a Compass Card
Parents applying for a Compass Card need to fill in a Compass Registration Form. If you have more than one child with special needs, you'll need to fill in a separate form for each child. Young people over the age of 16 are welcome to complete their own Compass Registration Form.
The information you provide is entered on the Compass database. It's held independently by Amaze and the information on it is collated and used anonymously to help develop local services for children with special needs.
Amaze is registered under the Data Protection Act. That means we have to meet rigorous standards in keeping the information you provide confidential.
Download a copy of our Compass leaflet for more details.
To be eligible for a Compass Card, your child will need to:
- be under 20 years old
- be living or going to school in Brighton and Hove, or being looked after by the city
- have a disability, special educational need or complex health need that has a significant effect on daily life. Generally, they'll be eligible for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or have a statement of special educational needs
If you're in any doubt, or you need help completing the form, email compass@amazebrighton.org.uk or call the Amaze helpline on 01273 772289.
Renewals and lost cards
Your child's Compass Card's valid for two years (or up to their 20th birthday if it's sooner). The month before the card expires, Amaze will ask you to update your child's details by filling in a new Compass Registration Form. Once that's done, they'll be issued with a new card.
If you lose your card and need a replacement, send us a cheque for £5 (made payable to Amaze) and include a note of your child's name and your full postal address.
